Before you scroll down this section, do take note of the followings:- This wedding photography was covered by one wedding photographer (that's me, of course) and 4 wedding videographers (Merah In Motion) from Singapore. What you will see below are selected 181 images of my favourites which portray the whole wedding ceremony. This is a very challenging wedding ceremony (indeed). Why I say that? I start capturing the make-up session from 4PM and the wedding procession ended up in 3 other different places and yes, it ends at about 2:30AM in the morning. It seemed like it rained the whole evening! There were 2400 pictures has been taken for this wedding and I am faced with challenging lighting at the stage where the traditional indian wedding ceremony has been held.

What you will see below are many images which not many professionals who will be able to capture as this is another level of actual day wedding photography called "flash photography". This is not "point-and-shoot" type of photography. It is not as easy as it seemed but if you are a person who uses a DSLR, you will know what I meant after going through all these images. If you think "flash photography" is simple, then try it. This is a nightmare for 95% of wedding photographers out there in the market.

Photo Fusion

Wedding Photography is a fast growing industry, whereby any Tom, Dick and Harry can pick up a DSLR camera and self-proclaim themselves as "professional photographer". So much so, many of them has never used a 35mm film camera, let alone stepping into a dark room to develop Black and White film (which I used to do when I was in United States working part-time as photographer for our bi-monthly "The Volante" newspaper in the campus.

I first started with 35mm cameras in 1990 capturing concerts for Taiwanese singer who came to Malaysia to perform and have since migrated from various brand of cameras and models from Goko compact camera to Canon AE-1 to Canon Rebel 1000 and much later to Nikon N90s. I started with DSLR with a Fuji Finepix S2 Pro (which at that time was the best among Nikons or Canons for wedding photographer best DSLR when it comes to Auto White Balance). In fact, most professionals from Malaysia at one time used Fuji Finepix S3 Pro and S5 Pro. I have since couple months ago upgraded all my camera equipment to full frame cameras.

Here we are, in a world that moves faster than everyone ever thought possible, we have no choice but to adapt to new limitations and the term "Photo Fusion" has captured the hearts of many clients and will be on the leading edge of a trend that may possible change the face of wedding photography.

What is "Photo Fusion" exactly? I won't elaborate further on this but for clients who engages our full day services will experience photo fusion which will be the highlight of the day. I have experience this since last year and it has been encouraging but for the next couple months, it will be more interesting as we will include more equipment to perfect the whole "Photo Fusion" finished product. What A Great Year!

It has been a great year for me to end with 30 international award winning pictures with two (2) first placing in two different categories in ISPWP (International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers) based in United States.

Yes it has been a hectic year for me managing a few companies at the same time trying to make all my clients happy. I have made several changes to the way I handle my wedding photography business. Competition in this industry is irrelevant to me now and I live in my own world serving my potential clients and existing clients who has been supportive of me throughout my whole 18 years career in wedding photography.

I have made several improvements and I could see the response and one of the things I love most is:-

1. a big turnaround in my "wedding reception" or "slideshow" presentation;

2. the investment in equipment that I put in;

3. serving my ex-clients and giving them goodies! (well, find out more if you are my ex-client);
4. working and selecting a few professional photographers to work with me for clients who have enough budget for their wedding day (sometimes I bring my student photographer along for on-site assignments).
5. last but not the least, I love going "solo" for my photography job (for budgeted clients). This year alone, I manage to return approximately 1500 images (in average) in high resolution images back to my clients. Why keep it? Best of all, my rejected rate for all images taken for an actual wedding day is only 3%. Sharp, clear and manage to capture the moment, be it at the wedding ceremony, the church or temple and wedding reception.

I sincerely hope next year will be another great year, not just for me but for all readers who visit my web blog once a while. Thanks and wishing all of you a wonderful New Year in 2012. Adios!

Engagement Photography (Batu Caves, Selangor)

My client booked me about a month ago before their Engagement Ceremony at Batu Caves. It is the first time I am capturing the engagement wedding for this couple in this wonderful worship place with Lord Murugan statue standing at 140ft (42.7m) in height!

The only request from my client prior to this posting is that they do not like their photo to be posted in my web blog as the groom is a shy person! Well, here is it! These images that you see here are taken at the ceremony without the Bride & Groom in it! As we can see here, pictures do tell a thousand words... even without the main couple in the following images.

Who Took These Images in This Web Blog ?

I have been constantly asked who took all these images in www.mwpstudio.com web blog? The answer is ME! Although I have other team members who acted as the main or 2nd back-up photographer, I have been constantly posting these images that you see in this web blog by myself in for several years now.

There is one reason why he/she asked me this question. There are many wedding photography studios or companies that I know engages freelancers for their clients wedding photography assignment. Of course, the sample images shown to the client at the company was taken by another photographer The results ends up in disaster! Yes, it was well taken and of course, news spreads and their friends avoids wedding company whom they do not know who is the photographer in the first hand.

The other question is who won all those 30 International Awards competition overseas? Well, the answer is... ME again!

Thirdly, another one good question asked by the client was : how do I know if the photographer is good? someone whom I can rely on for my actual day wedding photography? First of all, check out their work especially those taken during wedding dinners or reception. Those you must take note was images taken in the ballroom such as Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel Ballroom, Berjaya Hotel Ballroom at Times Square or Klang Centro "Grand Imperial" Ballroom. Many beginners or amateur photographers avoids showing the wedding reception images as they know very well that if the images was badly taken, it can be shown easily by looking at (a) the color (b) composition (c) the whole scene/scenario at the wedding event.

Sometimes pricing does play a role in it. I love being solo for most of my wedding assignments as I try to save more for my client. It does not mean having 2 photographer could do more or could capture more amazing shots! If you think that way, you are wrong! One photographer will do provided that he can do 2 photographer's job. Yes, that's what I am good at and I have been doing that for the past 17 years!

So, choose your actual day photographer wisely. If you need two or 3 photographers for your wedding day, check your photographer's background first before checking if you have enough budget. Its a once-in-a-lifetime affair and pictures do tell a thousand words.

Dear friends, I have been away (literally) for the past 3 weeks as my place was flooded with students from The One Academy (TOA). I have not been updating my web blog lately but I will do so next week.

Above images was taken on "actual day" on 3 June 2011 in Mukah, Sarawak. We had an early morning "chut mun" ceremony and with some time to spare, we took to the streets in Mukah and went back to Steven's old school and his grandfather's wooden house. Gosh, when I stepped in the classroom I can feel that I am a student again! It was an amazing feeling... I hope everyone enjoy these amazing images and yes I had an awesome experience flying on a Twin Otter 12-seater plane. I almost "puke" on the first day! Huahaha!

For the past few months I have been extremely busy with all the things that I have been doing (if you know what it is...) and finally I am able to complete the "actual day" wedding albums for my clients. I had also people emailing me asking when I will be updating my web blog again (which I have not actively updated recently). Sorry folks, more wedding images coming up the next 2 weeks.

Last Sunday wedding at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel Ballroom, my client (Henry + Ivy) had a special guest from Hong Kong. You may check out multiple award winning singer - Justin Lo from WIKIPEDIA on this LINK. Yes he was the special guest singer for the night - specially flown in direct from Hong Kong under the noses from his fans in Malaysia and he literally came out from the backstage without the guests' knowledge. Oh boy! You can check out the last two image when all the guest became "fans" screaming and wanted to shake Justin's hand! I was stuck in between at the corner of the wide stage but I managed to capture what I needed.

Thank God... my vast background of capturing extreme stage conditions such as concert dates back to 1992 (film era) and I managed to capture all the great shots from this wedding reception last Sunday. Dear friends, I have been away from blogging for quite awhile as my hands is tied-up with many work. Some of you tried to meet me but I couldn't find the correct time to meet face-to-face. There is two "prospects" got disappointed as I got booked by another client for a wedding to be held in Year 2012.

Sometimes we may think that the "date" is still a long way to go but we never know that whether someone out there is also eye-ing to book my services on the same date. I have always mentioned about "first-come, first-served" and it is true to the dot. Am I in hot demand? Well, yes and no. It depends on how you see it. I do what I can to satisfy any client's needs and I will be terrible disappointed if I am not be able to be your wedding photographer on your big day.

My work is hyper extensive and I am involved in several industries that there are times you could not cope as "time" is always our common enemy. With 29 International Wedding Photography Awards around my belt, more is coming my way. Should I increase my price? Well HELL no! Awards is a just recognition, not an excuse for me to increase my price. Unfortunately I see many photographers in Malaysia/Singapore increased their price because of this! If I do a good job, then I give myself a "pat" on my back. If "no", then I won't be happy as well. Photography is subjective. There is no right answer or wrong answer. It's only how you enjoy looking at it but if you leave your big day to the professionals, you will be assured that your big day will be a memorable ones... All images are saved in softcopies so that when you reached 50 years old, you will still enjoy the very moment of you getting married to your loved ones...

I have recently been invited to write for Singapore largest & widely read women's website and as far as I know, I am "the only" Malaysian wedding photographer who is doing that. 29 International Wedding Photography Awards (2009 - 2011)

Some say it's crazy, some say it's awesome. I call it MAGNIFICIENT! Well folks, last Sunday evening when I was in my room about to do my usual stuff, which is photo editing, I pulled out my iPhone and checked my e-mail. Guess what? The results for Winter 2010 (ISPWP) Wedding Photography is already up on the web!

I scrolled through those 24 different categories and of course, I entered only 3 or 4 categories for this time round and I won the 2nd place for Bride & Groom Portrait and 5th place for The Decisive Moment category.

This added to my list of awards as an International Wedding Photographer with 29 Awards in 2 years 2 months! Crazy isn't it? Oh yes, I'm the ONLY Malaysian wedding photographer who won award for Winter 2010 photography competition edition.

Yes I am back from Chinese New Year holiday but still having the festive season mood. There is so many things on hand that I have to complete before I head to Guangzhou (China) in 10 days time and Bangkok by end of the month. Time flies so quickly isn't it?

It was a short drive from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bahru. 7 hours!!! That's exactly 7 hours using Karak highway passing by Raub, Kuala Lipis and Gua Musang. Traffic was slow as it rained the whole trip. This is my 3rd trip to Kota Bahru but it was my first driving there. It wasn't bad at it seems as I can see a lot of development with bustling city life. I was also pretty surprised that someone told me that there were only 70 Indian (Malaysian) families lives in Kota Bahru, is that true?

This is the engagement ceremony of Ramesh and Anu. I loved the environment, the shots I took and everything seemed so quick. And yes, it took me 6 hours to reach KL... and it rained all the way! I left Kota Bahru by 10:50PM and reached Kuala Lumpur at 5:00AM. By 6:30AM I had another wedding - chinese wedding ceremony in Petaling Jaya!!!

The most difficult part of Traditional Indian Wedding Ceremony is having to capture the White Balance, of the image, the motion as well as the expression of each and every subject during a wedding event. If you notice the wedding hall, "orange light" was used rather than white as orange creates the romantic ambience but it will be a problem for most camera users. Canon cameras will produce the worst color results but Nikon cameras did improve on the white balance issues lately for a few of its camera models but it still do not produce the same results as what shown in this wedding images below.

So for photographers out there, wedding photography is not about "technology", "full frame cameras" or knowing "how to use snap an image" but its about the "right moment", the "exposure" and the "skill + knowledge" of handling the camera. Of course, this comes with experience. End of the day, it still boils down to "colors", the perfection of "white balance". That is why most of our readers seldom see Black and White images produced by www.mwpstudio.com. Colors is what brings "life and happiness" to an image. Black and White or Sepia tones will produce the mood but if you use too much of these Black + White/Sepia color tones, then you definitely have big problem with White Balance with the photographer.

How time flies... Another year is coming to an end and more weddings coming up in the Year 2011. I did mentioned in my previous posting that Year 2011 will be a great and super year for me as that year will be my 17th year as a wedding photographer. But, unfortunately I don't look as old as I look, that's probably I watch what I eat. I'm a meat eater by the way!

My schedule for 2011 is starting to filled up with weddings either locally or overseas. Is Kuching (Sarawak) considered overseas? Haha... Well, it depends on what you have in mind but I sincerely advise all clients to book my services early - preferably 1 year ahead. Of course, I am looking forward for many great things in Year 2011. Actual Day Wedding Photographer Vs Pre-Wedding Photographer

Actual Day Wedding Photographers are photographers who follows the couple the whole day capturing the whole wedding event process starting from the time the bride doing the make-up at wee hours in the morning until late at night. Sometimes they spend 10 to 13 hours on the job snapping away.

Pre-Wedding Photographers are photographers who arrange the location, the lighting, the mood and the ambience to capture "posed" couples which will be used for the pre-wedding albums. They would capture plenty of images but only selected images will be given back to the client depending on which package they choose. Usually the brides would be engrossed with the wedding gowns which they have and would have to top-up additional payment for VVIP gowns or dresses and of course, if they want the rest of the images back, then the bride and groom would need to top up again. An average package for pre-wedding image which a bridal studio returns is around 30 to 40 poses. I wonder why they call it "poses"? Why not "image"?

But have you ever wondered which photographers is "valued" the most? Actual Day Wedding Photographers or Pre-Wedding Photographers? The answers from the wedded couples that I know said they "overspend" on pre-wedding packages and I have a few clients who came to me and says they cherished their "actual day" wedding images more than "pre-wedding". At the end of the day, the choice is yours!

24 International Wedding Photography Awards in 20 months!

I still remembered about 2 1/2 years ago one of my students asked me why not taking part in a wedding photography competition? I asked him "what for"? He said that winning awards is a recognition and it is also for people know where I stood. Today, there are probably millions of wedding photographers in the world and many are self-proclaimed professionals.

I remembered one of my client saying this when he first met me in my studio a few months back. He said "I am looking for a REAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER". I was like "huh?!" Hope you know what goes into my mind at that moment.

The last one year I have recommended many of my clients and friends to purchase Fujifilm cameras. I was like a YELLOW PAGES and I managed to get them to purchase Fujifilm Finepix digital cameras especially Finepix F70EXR and Finepix S200EXR that uses Fuji Super CCD and the latest CMOS censor - the HS 10 model.

Why am I introducing these cameras to all these people? Well, its all about convenience. If you purchase a DSLR, you have to invest on lens, lens and lens. And to some people, to make the camera look good, you need to get a vertical grip. That would cost you an additional RM 400 or so. Imagine buying all these gadgets, you have to get a larger dry box to keep these lenses or else, it will start growing "fungus"!. Yes, no kidding especially in such humid weather in Malaysia! So whenever I go overseas for a trip, I don't carry my heavy camera gadgets. Instead I was using my wife's Fujifilm Finepix F70EXR! It shoots like a pro with it's has incredible EXR (Excellent Resolution) functions!

Now, with this latest model of FinePix HS 10, you will be surprise what wonders can you get with this camera that cost a mere RM 1800 (approximately USD $ 545) from Foto Shangrila (1 Utama & Mid Valley Megamall). The camera functions is abundant but most importantly, it gives you superb and crisp image with amazing white balance. On top of that, you get HD video, just like what a Canon 550D can do. What else do you want? It can zoom from 24mm (super wide) to 720mm! That's longer than my 70 - 200mm telephoto lens! So for those who wants to buy an EXCELLENT camera with limited budget and do not wish to keep upgrading their camera gadgets, choose Fujifilm Finepix HS 10!

I think some LIVE band will definately hate me for what I am writing here but I pick only 2 bands whom I think they can really sing! I mean, for Christ sake, aren't they suppose to sing rather than reading lyrics all the time? I have seen really bad singers during my whole 16 years as a wedding photographer. Of course, there are good ones whom I really don't know who they are as they are probably musicians from bars or clubs and we don't talk to each other! You know... the word "ego"...

Now... for those who are keen to put in extra money to make your wedding reception more meaningful (and of course, entertaining your guests...), there is Paul Au from Crescendo Music Entertainment from Ipoh. They are a group of music lovers coming together for some live, unplugged music. With only minimal acoustic musical instruments, The Fifth Instrument, or simply known as the vocals, can be truly pushed to its most original position. For those who are keen, they actually sings LIVE in 1 Station Leisure Cafe in Ipoh (Perak). Paul can be reached at +6 012 516 3332.

There is another up and coming LIVE Band called The MUSE Entertainment from Kuala Lumpur. I have no idea what MUSE stands for but you can really be impressed with Shorn Ho's guitar and whistling skills and his lead singer - Jessy. Her pics is below, yesss... pretty lady with great voice and this was taken last Saturday @ Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur during Aaron and Stephanie's wedding reception. 13-Hours Marathon

In this posting, I would like to mention about the last wedding that I attended - Derek and Grace.

Well, this is a chinese and christian wedding which I always enjoyed and being the official photographer, I went through a gruelling task of being on the job for 13 hours. Let me share with you how was the schedule is like:

- morning ceremony (8am to 12:30noon)

- church ceremony and wedding reception (3pm to 11:30pm)

Yes, it's hard as I had to do the wedding reception slideshow on the spot that combines both HD (high definition video) clips and photo image together. Thank God everything ends well and I ended up with over 1900 images for that day!

Amateur Photographers
I have been patient with clients who has friends or someone whom they engaged has their own photographers. I would prefer them not to be involved in the actual day as this is the most important day for each client and when these "amateurs" are excited, they will keep snapping away and blocking my way. The worst part both bride and groom are looking at separate ways while I snap. This is so ridiculous. So if any of you plan to have a "back-up" photographers, please bear in mind that if I ever miss any shots, please do not blame me for missing the shots yea...

Life has been interesting lately until I have to block my schedule for the whole month of June except for two weddings which I will have been committed to. Being an actual wedding day photographer and pre-wedding photographer, I have been committed to do the best and giving the best to all my clients.

For those who doesn't know me very well, I have a few businesses which always make my time or schedule full. The month of March-April, July-August and Nov-Dec is my peak period but it will not be shown in my schedule in this web blog. Wedding Reception Slideshow
- we have improved the software & hardware to create better and awesome wedding reception slide show from now on and our clients will definitely enjoy the photo slide show during their wedding reception. This only applies to clients who engages me for whole day wedding photo shoot.

Bookings for 2011
- We are heading towards the middle of 2010 and time seems to fly by too quickly. For those who are getting married in Year 2011, please book me early as next year in chinese calendar will be a good year to get married. I am expecting more wedding date clashes so it would be good to have early bookings.
- Do check with your friends, relatives or your "in-laws" as they MIGHT book other photographer(s) "without" your knowledge. There has been 2 cases this year that the client's friends and "in-laws" engaged other photographers without their knowledge and the client had to go through unnecessary hassle to have their "deposit" forfeited. See? They are supposed to "save" money but instead, there goes their deposit!

Destination Weddings
- Clients who wished to have their pre-wedding or actual wedding photography to be taken in exotic islands or foreign countries, please plan your budget. My rate varies from countries to countries and it is best to know where you are heading to and making sure that you have the budget as you would need to pay for lodging, transportation (by airplane) and food.

Actual Day Photography & Pre-Wedding Photography
- Most of you would know that I specialized in "actual day wedding photography". For "pre-wedding", I can only do on case-to-case basis as I like taking "real locations" or exotic locations which not many people has taken. I also do not like to use "fake backdrops" or studio backdrops as this is done mainly by bridal studios.

Schedule for 2011

Awards and International Publications
What makes me different compared to other wedding photographers is that I am actively involved in taking part in international photography wedding competitions. My work is also featured in international wedding photography publication this month and I will update all of you on this once I get a hard copy from the publisher in United Kingdom.

My presence in international awards competition and my work features in international publication for the past 15 months was not a fluke but this is something which I can say I am proud to achieve after being a wedding photographer for more than 16 years. This is something which not many Malaysian wedding photographers are able to achieve and most of my clients are proud to be able to engage me as their wedding photographers.
